Duration: Two classes on May 24 & 26 from 6:30-8:00pm at the Durango Academic Coaching Center, 3750 Main Ave Suite 5
Cost: $60
Description: This course explains and demonstrates the first seven tools in Dyslexia Tool Kit for Tutors and Parents: What to do when phonics isn’t enough. Class participants will take away usable techniques that are fun for the student and easy for the parent or teacher to implement. Best of all — they actually work!
The tools are derived from the groundbreaking research presented in three books:
The Dyslexic Advantage: Unlocking the hidden potential of the dyslexic brain; by Brock L. Eide, M.D., and Fernette F. Eide, M.D.
The Reading Remedy: Six Essential skills that will turn your child into a reader, by Marion Blank, Ph.D.
Overcoming Dyslexia: A new and complete science-based program for reading problems at any level, by Sally Shaywitz, M.D.
Drawing on these works and adding insights from many others, the authors of Dyslexia Tool Kit crystallized the research into easy to use techniques, which can be used in combination or one at a time.
These methods differ dramatically from phonemic awareness based programs such as Orton-Gillingham, Sounds in Syllables, Linda Mood Bell, etc., so take this class if you are interested in a different approach, using the latest research.
